THE NORTHERN TERRITORY.

A SUGGESTION. AN INDIAN POPULATION. By Telegraph.— Press Association. --Copyright. (Received August I, 10.15 a.m.) SYDNEY, Ist August. At the annual meeting of the Chamber of Commerce at Merivale, tho president suggested that the Northern Territory might be banded over to Great Britain to be populated by natives of India. Without population, or ev^oii police outposts, and unconnected by telegraph, the Territory offered an irresistible temptation to any foreign nation, which might be tempted to take advantage of England's absence or distraction. The danger of a black population was only real if it was not under piopcr control. Australia, could secure tho advantage of having a large tract peopled and governed not only by friends, but by her own kin.
