o — "Ladies Night" at the Wellington Savage Clvb — an annual reunion — is to be h3ld on Satuiday next in tha Town Hall. Both the main hall and the concert chamber hive been engaged, and efforts are being made to ensuie that the coming gathering will be the most •uccessful held by the club. His Excellency tho Governor, who is a past Chief Savage, vrill be present. The' third annual dinner of the officers oi tho Wellington City Cadet Battalion, was held at Godber's llooms last night.' .The toast-hst was as follows : — '"The Navy, Army, and Auxiliary Fotcss" 1 " (Mr. H. A. Parkinsin), responded to by Capt. Darroch for tho Navy, Captain and Adjutant T. W. .M'DOnald (Defence Dapartment) for the Army, acd Captain Endman (Defence Cadets) for tho Auxiliary Forces; "The Education Board" (Mr. MacMorrato), responded to by Mr. A. W. Hogg, M.H.R. ; "The Inspectors" (Captain Blake) , acknowledged by Messrs. j. S. Tennant (inspector) and Wm. Gray (Principal of the Svormal School) ; "The N.Z. Public School Cadets" (Mr/ WmFoster),, responded to by Captain Hemp'.eman; "The Winners of the Challenge Shield" (Major Conies), responded to by Captain Erskine, Officer Coaimandinj the Terrace School Cadet Company, which •won the Xbrth Islard Shield ; "Absent Friends'' (Mr. C. J. M'Kinr.on), in reply - Captain Feltham ; f'The Ladies" (Captain Scott). During the cvecing musicr.l items j ■were rendered by Captains Wilson, Low, j Messrs. P. Hoctley, CardaleJ* and Clapham. Fleming and Bakcwell (inspectors), Sir Edrrard Gibbe3, of tho Education Department, and Colonel L. W. Loveday. . There was a good attendance at the weekly meeting of the V.M.C.A. Literary and Debating Club last evening, Mr. R. Brown presiding. The subject for debate was : "Is Professionalism in Sport Desirable?" Mr. Dow land Epc«!:c in the affirmative, and Mr. Partou' for the negative. The negative won by a small majority. • The second of three performances of the well-known corncJy "Dr. Bill" was given by tho Pet One Comedy Club in the local Oddfellows' Hall, last evening. The " performers gava a cnpitil interpretation of the many amusing sit- j uations with which the play abounds, and were rewarded v/ith hairty applause from the vfcry_ large audience. A concert was given on, Thursday night by somo -friends at tlie Mission Hall, Tory -street. The programme con- j sisied of pianoforte solos, vocal duets, J 'songs and recitations. On the motion of Sister ' Isabel a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the entertainers.
