An Invercargill Press Association message states that Captain James Gardner died yesterday, aged 71 years. Deceased was well known as tho former owner of Birchwood Estato, the finest homestead in Southland. Ho played a large part in introdxtcing sport -into that district, and • for many years ran his own pack of hounds. Mr. A. C. Stubbs, of the Union Bank, Christchurch, was married to Mrs. H. B. Morrison, at Greytown, on Thursday, the ceremony being performed by the , Rev.l J. A. Brown at tho residence ' of the bride's mother, Mrs. Calders. The bride was srttendad by Mia> Culfield of Wsnganui, and was giv-sn away by Mr. J. M 'Master of Tuhitarata. Mr. Horce W. Piper of Wellington was best man. ?Cews has? been received that Captain Olsen, who commanded fcho uteamei Nairnshirc on her last visit to Xew Zealand, died onb oard from the effects of apoplexy, 26 days after the vessel left Wellington for Avonmouth. .The duties of navigating tho Steamer devolved upon Mr. Page, chief officer, who took charge of the vessel for {he remainder of the voyage. Captain Olsen has been in the service of Messrs. Turnbull, Martin and Co. for the past 26 years, and was one of the pioneers in the frozen moat industry.
