TRIED AGAIN FOR MURDER.
INSANITY CURED. PRISONER RETURNS TO DOCK. [PRES3 ASSOCIATION.] SYDNEY, 30th May. An unusual care, in which a man appeared for trial a second time on a charge of murder, was before the court hero today. Richard Riloy killed Rose Arnold on 28th March, 1906, was sentenced 'to death in May, wns declared in June to be insano and was. consequently placed in an asylum. Medical evidence having shown that Rilev was suffering from delusional mania and had recently recovered his sanity, 113 was ag?in placed on trial. The prisoner made a statement that insanity had been produced by mental tioublcs occasioned by the girl. Ho did not feel as a guilty man, nor did ho bear ;i guilty conscience. It had pleased God to deprivo Mm of his reason, and God wou'd not hold him responsible for what he did while in that state. Rilev went to his lodgings, at Surrey Hills, on 28th March, accompanied by Rose Arnold, a barmaid, who was a friend of thp landlord. Tho girl went up to his iocm, and the o:cupant3 of tho house shortly afterwards hejrd eoveral shot*. The door of the room was locked, but on looking through tho window, the owner of tho houto say.- tho girl lying on the Iloor, arid Riley looking out into the street, calmly smoking a cigar ette. Then furt-'ier firing was heard in the room. When the police arrived, it was found that the girl had been shot in four places, and her hend had been almost oe v tsrcd by a razor-cut. Riley was found lying by her eiuc with ,i bullet wound in the fac-2 and his throat cut. He afterwards confessed to tho murder. Tha '.•anse of tho tragedy was jealousy.
