Mr. Georgo Albu, one of the leaders of tho German gioup of mine-owners f.i the Rand, addressing a general meeting of the Finance Corporation of Jo nannesburg, declared that tho minjowners were prepared for a prolonged struggle, settling disputes for .»ll fuii\ It had long been lealised that a largo proportion of the minors wero gross!;/ inefficient, and that tho number employed underground was excessive The mineowners, added Mr. Albu, wero reluctant to dischargo men in bad times, but the strike had removed the sentimental factor, and had nffoi-ued an opportunity for far-reaching icforms. Ho predicted that the r lines would in futnro be run with 'iftean ti twenty per cent, fewer of tho highlypaid labourers. If tho struggle was prolonged, Afrikanders would, Mr. Albu said, fill the strikers' places as supervisors of ihe natives. HET YOLK SPURNS LABOUR. '(Received May 31. 9.47 a.m.) PRETORIA. 30th May. The Witwatersrand branch of Het Yolk, the Boer party now in power, has lefused to amalgamate with the Labour Party, objecting to its Soci?l3stic tendencies.
