Representatives of vaiious local authoritcs in the health district of Otago, having failed to agree ti3 to tho apportionment of the cost of providing and maintaining a hospital at Dunediu for the reception of cases of infectious disease, yesterday, appeared, together with the District Health Officer, beforo Mi. Widdowson, S.M., upon whom tho power of appoitioning the cost devolved. Evidence was given for nnd against the proposals of the Health Department, many representatives from country districts contending that the hospital could not possibly bo of benefit ontsitlc the city and suburbs. For tho other side, it was argued that the hospital would prevent the spread of infection from city to country in times of epidemic, and would be of equal value to tho wholo community. The magistrate reserved his decision.
