GUMDIGGERS' GRIEVANCES.
far TELECRATH. PRESS ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, 22nd March. Mr. E. Tregear, secretary of the Labour Department, arrived this morning for the purpose of investigating certain grievances of the Gumdiggers' Union. Tho annual meeting of "this union will bo held at Waipu on tho 26th inst., and the head of the LabOur Department was invited to attend, in order that diggers might be able to lay their views on various matters before him. They desire certain amendments in the Kauri Gum Industries Act, and requested Mr. Tregear's attendance in order that he might obtain their views at first hand on the defects in tho law. Mr. Trogear replied that, while unable in his official position to attend the annual meeting of any union, he would visit Waipu when the meeting was in progress, and when diggers were assembled from all parts of tho province.
