MILLIONAIRE MURDER.
THE AFFIDAVIT. ALLEGED BRUTALITY OF THAW. INDUCEMENTS TO ACCUSE WHITE. PRESS ASSOCIATION. (Received March 20, 8.38 a.m.) NEW YORK, 19th March. At the continuation of the Thaw trial yesterday the affidavit alleged to have been made by Mrs. Thaw in the office of Abe Hummel (the theatrical lawyer who was struck off the rolls) was lead. It implied that she consulted Hummel in" reference to a suit which she intended to bring against Thaw. Mrs. Thaw's alleged affidavit declares that while they were living together in tho Tyrol, Thaw stripped her and cowhided her until she fainted. She was compelled to remain in bed for three weeks. He repeated his attacks while they were in Switzerland and Paris, because she refused to wrongfully accuse White. The caw for the prosecution has closed. Mr. Delmas, leading counsel for the defence, called experts in lunacy to show that Thaw suffered from insanity at the time of the murder. Tk'3 affidavit referred to was that in which Mrs. Thaw before her marriage affirmed — according to the evidence of Hummel's stenographer — that the confessions she made in Paris to Thaw were extorted from her.
