MIRAMAR BOROUGH COUNCIL
A meeting of the irfiramar Borough Council was held last night, there be- , ing present the Mayor (Mr. F. Townsend) in the chair, and Councillors Crawford, Bell, Witt, and Richards. The council's contribution to the Wellington Hospital funds (£205) was passed for payment. It was pointed «rat that this amount was £25 more than was' requisitioned last year. Some remarks were made as to the all-round increase shown by the requisition, and Councillor Crawford raised the question as to whether the hospital did not give facilities to people who could afford to pay • for them in another direction. He complained that no notice had been sent to the council of the meeting to be held to elect representatives to the Hospital Board. "You'll have to pay out," said the Mayor, and the council concurred. Complaint was made by a contractor aa to the charge made by the borough solicitor for drawing up an agreement, apd it was decided to defer consideration of the matter until next meeting inth a view to getting further information on the subject. The Bank of New Zealand wrote •toting that the cost of raising £13,200 of the £23,000 loan was £86 14s. It was decided that a cheque for the •mount be forwarded to the bank. The Mayor said there was every prospect of the balance of the debentures being pieced in a very short time. Correspondence was read regarding a complaint by Mr. Herbert Andrew-, artha as to the tramway going through his land at Contts-gtreet, on the Lyell Bay Koad. The Mayor said the land cottlfl.be taken under the Public Works ' Act. It was merely a matter of valuation. The Mayor referred to the public meeting held recently at Miramar at which a motion wa» carried in favour of an additional loan of £12,000 for tramway purposes, and he moved thftt
the resolution be entered on the minntes of the council. This was agreed to without discussion. Accounts amounting to £1375 were passed for payment. The question of street lighting was brought forward by Councillor Witt, who urged that it was time something was done in the matter. The Mayor said no did not think there was any chance of getting the gas out there ; they might get the electric light from the City Council. He suggested that the clerk should get some particulars from the City Council to present to the next meeting. Councillor Bell proposed a motion to that effect, and it was carried.
