DISASTROUS FIRE.

A serious fire has occurred at Kempgey, a town with a, population of abouttwo thousand five hundred, situated 280 miles north-east of Sydney. Nearly the whole of the business portion of the town was destroyed. Tho remainder of the town was saved by (l couple of buildings being burned, so as to form a gap against the main ponflagmtion. The damage is estimated at between thirty thousand and forty thousand pounds. The fire started in the office of the Macleay Chronicle. Savage's large store, which was completely destroyed, was insured for £6000 in various offices. The National had a line of £800. MANY PEOPLE HOMELESS. (Received February 1, 10.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Many persons in Kempsey have been rendered homeless. The absence of a water supply made it impossible to check tho flames.
