Emperor William received a large number of congratulatory messages on tho occasion of his forty-eighth birthday. In acknowledging them the Emperor states that the messages are full of boundless enthusiasm at the national spirit displayed afc the elections, which have given the world a brilliant proof of sound, patriotic sensation— of appreciation of civilisation, confidence in the future of the Fatherland, and unswerving loyalty to the Emperor.
