GRAND ORANGE LODGE.

ANNUAL SESSION. The annnal session oi the Grand Orange Lodge was continued after wo went to press yesterday afternoon. Officers bearers were elected as follows :-— Worshipful Grand Master, Bro. George Petherick ; G D.M., Bro. Aston ; Grand Secretary, Bro. J. Lindsay; Grand Treasurer^ Bro. H. J. White; Grand Chaplain, Bro. Major Twyf ord ; Grand Foreman of Committee, .Bro G. Hill. After the officers had been elected the meeting adjourned to a banquet 'in Searl's Rooms, where a pleasant evening was passed. The chair was occupied by P.G.M. Bro. W Creighton. In proposing the toast of "The World Wide Orange Institution," Bro. Willis remarked that the Orange institutionhad been established for over 200years^ and having withstood persecution was still surviving. The aims and objects of the institution were to secure liberty of thought, freedom of speech, arid an open Bible. Liberty to think as* they liked, liberty of speech to speak their thoughts. This had been denied in the past and the Orafnge institution came in and tilled a much-needed want. The institution originated in the -Old Country, and now branches had spread to every part of the British Empire. The official toast list comprised "The' King and Jsoyal Family," prop6sed"~by P.G.M. Bro. W. Creighton, "King William the- 111. (of Glorious Memory.)'' proposed by P.G.M. Bro. White, "Liberty and the Open Bible," proposed by Bro. Major Twyford, and responded, to by Bro. Bey. Ward, "The World Wide Orange Institution, proposed by Bro. Willis, responded to by Bro. Hellier, "Grand Lodge Officers," proposed by Bro. J. Lindsay, P.G.S., "Representatives of the Grand Lodge," proposed by Bro. R. P. Smith, G.T., responded to by R.W.G.M. Bro Parsons, "Our Visitors," proposed by Bro. Steptoe, W.D.M., "The Press," proposed by Bro. W. H. Marple, P.M. During the evening songs were contributed by Messrs. J. E. Frost, Aston, and Twyford, and recitations were given by Messrs P. J. Shand and W. H. Marpie. The lodge resumed business at 9.30 this morning.
