PROHIBITED PERSONS AND HOTELKEEPERS.
\BX TELEGBAPH. — MIESS ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, 6th October. A. man named Walter Humby confessed to District Judge Kettlei this morning that her had .spent £260 since last January, largely in drink and gambling. Humby was "before the Court on charges of having been found drunk in Northstreet, Newton, and having been found in the Newtoji Hotel, contrary to th© terms of a prohibition ' order which existed: against him. He pleaded guilty, and said he could not Temember what hotels he went into. Ho visited several. . Mr. Kettle : Have these hotelkeepers been served with notices, of the prohibition order against this man? Sub-Inspector Gordon : Yes, your Worship. But there are so many prohibited persons now that it is difficult for hotelkeepers to keep account of them. His Worship (to accused) : I could give you three months' imprisonment, and I believe that would do you good and keep you away from drink. I'll try you with a month to start with. Your prohibition order expires on November 4th. Will you consent to its renewal? Accused : It will do no good, for I can get drink at hotels all the same.
