FRUITGROWERS' CONFERENCE
RECOMMENDATIONS OF A COMMITTEE. DURESS ASSOCtATIOK.I SYDNEY, 16th October. At the Inter-State Fruitgrowers' Conference to-day speeches were delivered in condemnation of the Commerce Act as it affects the fruit industry. At the instance of Mr. Mackie, of New Zealand, the conference appointed a committee to consider the matter. The committee recommended that the Act should be amended so as to include a provision that fruit infected with any disease to the extent of not more than 6 per cent, be considered sound; also that for the purposes of the act, New Zealand, Fiji, and adjacent islands be included in the regulations as States of the Commonwealth. The conference also resolved that the New Zealand Government be asked to remove the embargo on grapes. (Received October 17, 9.49 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The Fruitgrowers' Conference passed a resolution in favour of co-operative fruitgrowing. It was decided to hold the next conference at Adelaide.
