THE EXHIBITION.
AN AMENDING BILL. The New Zealand International Exhibition Bill 1906, was introduced by Governor's Message yesterday afternoon. The Bill is designed to facilitate the working of the Exhibition in several directions. The Governor-in-Council is empowered^ to suspend, modify, or negative, either absolutely or subject to conditions, any provision of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, 1905, the Factories Act, 1901, and the Shops and. Offices Act, 1904, as far as the Exhibition is concerned. The Governor-in-Council may also suspend the provisions of the Chinese Immigration Act, 1881, and the Immigration Restriction Act, 1899, dn the case of persons ■who desire to enter the colony as visitors or exhibitors in connection with the Exhibition. It is provided; that with the consent of the Colonial Secretary the Executive Commissioners may borrow money from the bank by way of overdraft and that the Governor may remit or reduce Customs duties ia respect of goods imported for the purpose of the Exhibition. Th« commissioners are empowered to charge for admission to the Exhibition grounds, and it is provided that the provisions of the Inspection of Machinery Act, 1002, relating to the^iencing of machinery and to defective machinery shall apply to all machinery used for any purpose in connection with the Exhibitions The Christohurch Tramway Board is 'empowered to sell' electricity ■ to • the commissioners,
