Tho Minister for Lands arrived this * morning to be present at the banquet to - bo tendered to Mr. John Stevens by ln'3 r constituents to-night Immediately on arrival, the Minister was driven round the J district to view the country which is 1 subject to flooding by the Manawatu ' and Oroua Rivers. Tins afternoon a de- ' -putation representing various dramago ' boards and land-owners whose land is I alleged to have been damaged waited ' on the Ministor to put their case before ' him. The idea is to cut a direct chan5 nel to the ocean at an estimated cost of ' £60 000. To do this tho present dram1 age boards will have to be merged into ' one, which will have control of the \ whole of the Manawatu district. _ } At tho banquet this evening, it is ' believed, 'Mr. M'Nab will make some further references of importance to the p land question.
