COAL MINERS' DISPUTE.
« THE POSITION IN NEW SOUTH WALES. fPIIESS ASSOCIATION.! SYDNEY, 15th September. Representatives', of the owners and the miners met at Newcaßtle yesterday to consider the difficulty whica has arisen concerning the "dog watch" and tho demand for an increase, of eightpenco per ton in the hewing rale. The owners submitted proposals under which they are prepared to abolish the "dog watch" at all pits excepting East Greta, Standford, and Merthyr, where special conditions obtain. They are also prepared to advance the hewing rate fourpence per ton, which will carry an advance in the price of coal to ten shillings a ton from, the commencement of next year. , 1 " 'After a lengthy and amicable discussion the conference adjourned till Tuesday morning. A mass meeting of men, which was called for to-morrow, is now adjourned to Thursday. Meantime work at tho Newcastle pits continues. (Received September 17, 10 16 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Tho employees of the Proprietary Mine, Broken Hill, will meet to-day to consider whether a case for increased wages should not be cited for arbitration.
