One was that the regulation requiring "an owner to make application for a 'return of one-half the present* full rate each way for a horse travelling to and from a race meeting ehonld be abolish- ' ed, and in lieu thereof half rates each way- be charged. It was explained to the Minkttr that if the proposal was . adopted' the necessity for applying for the refund of half the present charge would be obviated/ and the department ■would not lose any revenue. The deputation also asked that all horae boxes* in trains -snould be lighted at night. The Hon. W. Hall-Jones said he considered both request* were very reasonable, and he promised to give them early consideration. ' Messrs. J. H. Bcthune and Co. insert 'advertisements with regard to a land auction sale which they will hold at their rooms, Featherston-itrcet. on Wednesday, 26th inst., at 2.30 p.m. They will submit a cottago property at Crofton, situated opposite tho Wcsleyan Churoh, containing five rooms, with conveniences, land 00 x 217 ft.
