THE WILLIAMSON COMPANY. The third production of "Leah Kleschna" by Mr. J. 0. Williamson's Company, headed by Miss Tittell Brune aad Mr. Thomas Kingston, was responsiblo for another large audience at the. Opera, Houss last evening. "Leah Kleschna" will be repeated to-night, and on Monday evening Miss_ Tittell Bruno will appear for the first time in NewZealand in Zangwill's most successful comedy, "Merely Mary Ann." It is said to be most original m conception, permeated with Humour of the most wholesome character, piesenting sketches from real life which. carry with them an interest far above 'the average production of modern comedy. The central figure jof Zangwill's co-medy is an interesting innocent country lass, uneducated, entirely unacquainted with the ways of tho world, whose 1 parents are dead ; and in order to eke out an existence enlists as a domestic servant, a- veritable Cinderella, and maid-of-all-work, eft a lodging house in the south of Lpndon. Miss Brune's conception of this character is said to be one of her finest comedy sketches, and offers her exceptional opportunities for displaying her powers of versatility. "Merely Mary Ann" is to be presented for three nights only, as "Sunday" is definitely announced for the two farewell appearances of Miss Brune in Wellington. FULLER'S ENTERTAINERS. .The chief attraction on tho programme presented at tho Theatre Royal is the clever turn of the Carmos, whose balancing feats are received nightly with the highest appreciation. Tho remainder of the items, however, are all of excellent quality, including the entertaining musical performance of th© Gardners, the high-class ' baes singing by 'Mr. A. L. Cropp.i the Rowell Sisters, and others. A change of programme is announced for to-night. THE SKATING RINK. Tho Skating Rink, in Ingestre-street, was open this afternoon, and it will be again opened this evening, when a full bra&s band will enliven the proceedings. The rink is in session on two days per week, Wednesday and Saturday. The annual social (fathering of the Zealandia Rifles was held last night, and was attended by 100 couples. It was an enjoyable function. During tho evening a wedding present was handed to ColourSergeant/ Bunckenburg-, and the prizes won at shooting were also distributed. Lance-Corporal Barcham received the company belt and medal, also ex-Captoiu Morison's challenge cup, Sergeant Schulenburg receiving a gold medal as runnerup. Trophies wore also handed to Privates Edwards, Jackson, and Anderson of C class and Private Egglestono of B class. Dancing was indulged dn until early morning, Lieut. Page and Sergeant Frandi being M.C.'s. A large committee, with Corporal Bellamore as secretary, carried' out all the arrangements admirably. Mr. Mawson did the catering. V The weekly meeting of the V.M.C.A. Literary and* Debating Club was held at the association's rooms, Harris-street, last evening, and_ a series of impromptu speeches were given. Among tho subjects discussed wera : " State Control of tKo Liquor Traffic," "The Government Land Bill," "Causes of High Rents in Wellington," and "The Election of Members of the Legislative Council." Mr. H. N. Holmes occupied the chair, and Mossis. Kean, Dart, Bruton, Randerson, Long, Good, and others took part. The Thorndon Ladiee' 'Hockey Club held a successful dance in th« Sydneystreet Hall on Thursday evening last. The hall was beautifully decoraied with evergreens and ferns, and the stage was pleasingly furnished by the Scoullar Company. Mr. Poole provided the palms. The catering was carried out by Mr. J. Godber. Dr. Izard, on behalf of Mrs. S. A. Rhodes, who was unable to be present, presented tho club with a solid silver cup, a gift warmly appreciated by the members. Tho ch.iperones were Mesdames Wallis, Murdoch, Dement, and Kay. The M.C.'s for the evening were M-sesrs. A. Butkr, W. B. Struthers, and J. D. M'lntvrc. Tho Excelsior Lodge of Druids will hold Us anniversary social gathering ' in the Druids' Hall on Friday, 12th October. A bazaar is to bo held by the Wellington District Lodge, 1.0. G.T., in St. Pater's Hall on fehe 3rd October, in aid of its district work. It will be opened by Hon. R. M'Mab, and will run for four nights. Mr. G. Kyme gave another exposition of hie system of music-reading at tho Church of Christ, Dixon-etreet, last night, in tho presence of a numerous and appreciative audience. 'Mr. Kyme will expound his system this evening at Pet one. Laefc evening nt the Missions to ' Seamen an enjoyable programme was presented by Mrs. Shorney, tho contributors being Misses Pringle, Tingey, Shornoy, and Master Shorney. The misfcioner, 'Mr. James Moore, addressed th© sailors on ambulance ' work, nnd some useful illustrations and hints were given.
