JOHNSONVILLE TOWN BOARD.

<- « The annual meeting of ratepayers of tho Johnsonville Town Board District was held in the Rechabite Hall, Johnaonville, on Tuesday evening. In opening the meeting, Mr. F. T. Moore, the chairman, pointed o"ut that the reason of delay in presenting the balance-sheet was owing to tho same not being audited by the department. A letter was read from the Audit Office, stating it should bo done at earliest opportunity. The balance-sheet submitted showed that some £607 passed through the hands of tho board as incomo for tho year ending 31st March, 1906. The sum of £450 had been spent on new works -such as kerbing, forming footpaths, road formation; two new culverts had been put in, fire bell erected, survey for drainage scheme, new lamps, lamp posts, etc. Groat appreciation was expressed of tho concrete kerbing done by tho board. On tho motion of tho chairman, seconded by Mr. J. A. May, the balancesheet was adopted as read, subject to audit. .' Mr. Joseph Chapman moved a hearty vote of thanks to the members of the board for their services, which was seconded by Mr. A. Mildenhall, and carried unanimously. Tho chairman urged tho incoming board to keep steadily in view tho desirability of a better system of lighting tho district, getting tho Main-road boundaries denned, the drainage schemo, and procuring suitable sito for burial ground, which is much needed on sanitary grounds. It was resolved that a deputation consisting of nuch members of the board as can attend, tho Chairman of the Hutt County Council, tho Chairman and members of tho Johnsonvillo and Hutt County Ratepayers' Association wait upon the member for tho district iri support of tho separate riding rate. On the question of a £500 guarantee asked by tho Wellington und Mnnawatu Railway Co. to run a lato train from Wellington to Johnsonvillo, stopping at Crofton nnd Khandallah, it was moved by Mr. 11. Bould, and seconded by Mr. A. Moore, that if Crofton and Khandallah residents nnd tho land company interested would find £400, Johnsonville reiidonts would find tha othor £100. — Oarnodi. ,
