KARORI BOROUGH COUNCIL.
, The KaJori Borough Council met last night, there being present the Mayor (Mr. A. C. Pearce), and Councillors Clark, Murdoch, Spiers, Lessington, Cook, Dasent, Putnam, and Mills. Councillor Murdoch withdrew his notice of motion re Messrs. Hill and Lloyd's contract for road formation. The Town Clerk, Wellington, wrote, Advising the council that the Wellingtop , pity Council had reconsidered the question of tramway fares, and had decided that they should be as fixed by clause 8 of the original agreement. His Worship : Please receive that letter. The letter waa received. Clause 8 provides that passengers for Karori shall pay 2d from Tinakori-road to the Post Office. The Trustees of the Lancaster Estate wrote re the conditions on which they would renew the lease of the quarry, including a royalty of 6d per yard.-— More than one councillor threw some doubt on the quality of the metal derived from the quarry, and incidentally the Mayo&r drew attention to fche fact that the council was hard up for metal, and had difficulty in finding a sufficient supply. After discussion, it was decided, on the motion of Councillor Spiers, that 4d a yard for the metal bo offered to the trustees. An application for the approval of a plan of subdivision by Kifrs. Cooper waa referred to the engineer for a. report. The Secretary of' the Wellington Harbour Board wrote urging the council to consider the necessity of preventing spoil from the road-widening going into the creek, and thence into the harbour. The clerk reported that he had advised the board that pipes would be put in to prevent any spoil going into the creel The letter was received, the Mayor remarking that the complaint emanated from some one who had nothing par ticular to do besides looking after such unimportant details. It was decided to enter into an agreement with the Wellington City Council for the hire of trucks for excavatioi. purposes in connection with the construotion of the tramway. It was decided to affix the seal of the council to the formal petition for the Order-in-Council approving of the construction of the tramway. The ranger reported several cases in (which stock had been allowed to stray on the roads, and it was decided that the "usual proceedings" be taken. Councillor Lissington urged that a large, amount of material — pipes, bricks, cement, gravel, etc. — would be required in connection with the tramways construction, and he moved that tenders be called for ,the supplies. The motion was seconded by Councillor Murdoch, and carried. The following were appointed to ffiie various committees : — Finance, The Mayor, Councilors Dasent, Lissington, and Mills.
