A SUGGESTION.
TO THE KDITOE*. Sir, — Now that the country is mourning the loss of our late Premier, Mr. R. J. Seddon. I should like to make th© proposition of the whole population of New Zealand paying a last tribute to one so highly honoured and respected, nob only in this country, but throughout the world. The suggestion I make is : That all business throughout the colony be» suspended for five minutes — say, at noon on the day of the Premier's burial. That all factories, machinery, trains, trains, vehicular traffic, and manual labour be stopped during that time, during which one and all may devote a thought to " one who has done his duty " and served his country well. The time during which this ceremony takes place, might be made known by the tolling of dhurch and fire bells, or by a series of guns being fired during the time allotted. I trust this proposal will meet with Reneral approval, and that abler pens than mine will assist in the movement. Trusting your early attention to this, and thanking you in anticipation, — I am, etc., G. VICTOR BECK. At its practice this week the Central Mission Band played "The Garland of Flowers " in memory of tho late Premier. The secretary desires us to say that tho band will be pleased to assist at the obsequies of Mr. SeddOn. The late Premier's two sisters, Mrs. Cunliffe and Mrs. Mackay, and one of his daughters. Mrs. . Morice, and his son-in-law, Dr. Morioe, arrived from the West Coast. this morning by the steamer Arahura. ' ' Owing to the death of the Premier all Association football matches set down for Saturday have been postponed. The Commissioner of Police has directed the members of the police force throughout the colony to wear crapo bands for a month owing to the death of the Premier.
