Asteroid camo through at the turn into the straight, and cutting down Armistice, won comfortably by three-quarters of a length, Melodeon half a length further back. Time, 2min 24 l-ssec. Dividends, £11 15s and £3 2s. Railway Hack Handicap, of 70 soys ; five furlongs. — Mr. F. Higgott's Petticoat, by Multiform — Bloomer 8.12, 1 ; Truce, 8.9, 2 ; Lady Warwick, 7.4, 3. Also started — Sedgmoo^r 8.12, Marseillaise 8.10, Captain Shannon 8.5; Devonia 7.0, Queen of the West 7.0, Jet do More 7.0, Snip 7.0, Blue Diamond 7.0, Kareroa 7.0. Won in a canter by four lengths. Watt's Buomerang, by Merriwee — Mnsquetaire, 7.10, 1; King's Birthday, 6.7, 2 ; Partitutu, 8 13, 3. Also started— Gold Crown 9.8, Auratus 8.7, Contingent 6.9, Bowman 6.9. Won easily by a length. In tho ordinary course of events a census of tho population of Queensland would be taken r-.oxt year, but in view of tha expense the Government has decided not to take the census.
