PERSONAL MATTERS.
Captain Seddon was a passeriger from the $outh this morning by the Rototnahana. Mr. Herdman, M.H.R. for Mount Ida, who has been making a tour of his electorate, returned to Wellington to-day. The Defence Department has approved the appointment of Mr. A. M. M'Diarmid as acting-lieutenant of the Wellington Highland Rifles. Amongst the passengers from the South by the Rotomahana to-day was Mft Hogben, Secretary to the Education Department. The British Corporation has appointed Mr. C. Richardson, son of the Hon. E. Richardson, resident shipping surveyor at Wellington. All the members of the Cabinet except the Akorney-Greueral (Hon. Colonel Pitt;, who is in Nelson, are now in Wellington. The Native Minister (Hon. J. Carroll) returned from the North last night. Mh W. C. Tregurtha received presentations yesterday afternoon from the Lower Hutt Railway staff, on his promotion to the positidn of Assistant-Relieving Officer. Mr. Herbert G. Feltham, of Wellington, who is pursuing his medical studies at Edinburgh, was successful at the examinations held in September, and has been admitted to the medical course. Mr. R. W. Gibbs, of the Bank of New Zealand staff, intends spending his vacation in the Old Country. He leaves Sydney on the Ophir on the 19th April next, in company with Mrs. Gibbs. Mr. Samuel Salek, of Wellington, has booked a p?ssage for England by the Mamofa, which leaves Sydney on the 15th March. It is his intention to return to New Zealand via America and Japan. Mr. James Hair, district secretary of the A.M. P. Society at Christchurch, is to take 1 the place at Auckland of Mr. C. W. Hemery, district secretary, who has been promoted to the position of resident secretsry for Tasmania. The staff of Gordon and Gotch, Proprietory, at the warehouse this afternoon made a presentation to Mr. J. P. Shahd, who had resigned the managership to go into business for himself. The staff also presented, a suver jewel case to Mrs. Shand. Mr. Calvert, in the absence of Mr. Duncan, Chw-f Inspector of Machinery, on behalf of the officers of the Inspection of Machinery Department, to-day presented. Mr. W. D. Andrews, of the clerical staff, on the qfceasion of his approaching marriage? with a token of respscb and esteem. A number di staff changes have taken place in the Bank of New Zealand since the General Manager*! return •to the colony from Europe. Mr. Henry Lawry, 6f the Wellington branch, has been promoted to the position of head accountant, ahd has been succeeded by Mr. J. H. Mentiplay. Mr. R. W. Gibbs, for many years accountant to the General manager, has been appointed an inspector. ; , Ah interesting double wedding anniversary is recorded. Mr. and Mrs. Jason B. Marriott, jun., of this city, celebrated their silver wedding anniversary at a social gathering in the Alexandra Hall last niglit, while on the 24th of last month Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Marriott, sen., who are now in Sydney, and who are Mr. J. B. Marriott, jun's, parents, celebrated iheir wedding.
