DEATH OF TWO INFANTS. [BY TELEGHAPH — PHES3 ASSOOfATIOK.] DUNEDIN, 25th October. An inquest was opened at Balcliitha to-day touching the death of newly born infant twins. Susannah Wainwright, single, employed as housekeeper to a farmer at vVaitepeka, left the house ot her employer on Sunday morning: After her departure traces of recent confinement were found in a stable, and the police were communicated with. On Monday a constable found the woman at a railway station near rhe farm, with a carpet-bag containing the bodies of two infants. She stated they had been born on Saturday night, and died. The father, she said, was at luvercargill, and she was on her way there. 'Evidence was given that the woman would not be in a fit condition to appear for nine days. The Coroner stated that a post mortem examination had been held on the bodies. There ■tfere no marka of violence, but the police were making investigation, and the enquiry could not go on iv the woman's absence. The inquest was adjourned till the 3rd November. , FATAL EALL OF COAL. DUNEDIN, 25th October Adam Thompson, a married man, aged about 60 years, was killed last night by a fall of coal in the Kaitangata colliery. He leaves a grown-up family. CYANIDE POISONING. NAPIER, 25th October. At the inquest on the body, of the young man Herbert John Bolwell, found dead on Thursday, a verdict was returned that death vas due to cyanide poisoning, but the jury declined to express an opinion as to whether the poison I had been s,elf-adminislered. |
