SHIPMASTERS' ASSOCIATION.
ANNUAL MEETING. The fourteenth annual meeting of the Shipmasters' Association of New Zealand was held in Wellington to-day, the President (Air. George Wilson) in the chair. The report presented by the Secretary (Mr. d. W. Williams) showed that the Association was flourishing. The branch unions in Auckland and Westport were being carried on in an efficient manner. The membership of the Auckland oranch had materially increased, while several members had been added to Ihe Westport Branch. The Association's expenses during the year had been fairly heavy, as a consequence of establishing ihe various branch unions and the necessary travelling expenses incidental thereto. During the period under review the sum of £30 had been granted from the Benevolent Fund, and £20 from the General Fund, in accordance with the rules. The Benevolent Fund now stood with a credit balance of £64 2s sd. Thanks were due to the President, Mr. George Wik son, for his donation of three guineas to the Benevolent Fund. Captain Fernandez, who had for many years been Sec retary to tho Auckland Branch, has oeen unanimously elected an honorary life member to the Association. Members have been fairly fortunate during the past year in their immunity from acci dents, and the costs in that connection had not been very heavy, the principal item being an amount of something over £30 in connection with the Gertie-Queen of the South collision some months ago The report was adopted, and the bal-ance-sheet was passed subject to audit. The retiring officers were re-elected, viz. : President, Mr. G. Wilson ; Vice Presidents, Captain P. Mllntyre and Cap tarn E. B. Atwood ; Secretary and Treasurer, Mr. J. W. Williams; Auditors, Messrs. Badham and Biss. The Auckland and Westport Branches will elect their own officers. Reference was made to the retirement of Captain J. T. King from the position of Vice-President, and he was specially thanked for his services.
