As the result of a social gathering held to celebrate the opening of the New Zealand Shipping Company's large new wool store, the Gisborne Hospital benefits to the extent of £450, and the school cadets £36. AUCKLAND, This Day. At the Police Court, George Michael Cleary, charged on seven informations with forging cheques and uttering the same at New Plymouth and Wellington, was remanded till Monday. Bail was 1 allowed in two sureties of £100 each. MASTERTON, This Day. At the S.M. Court, Alfred Joseph Batchelor, with a number of aliases, pleaded guilty to two charges of forging the name of W. Preston to cheques for £13 18s and £10 19s. He was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.

In order to enable the legal profession to attend the funeral of the late Mr. C. B. Izard, the law offices of the city will close to-morrow at 1 p.m. The Harbour Board this afternoon decided that after the dredge Wliakarire has completed her present dredging for the new Taranaki-street wharf, she shall be put on to three other dredging works (necessary to the increasing of wharf berthage) before being put on the dock dredging. These three works are expected to last till August of next year, so that not till then will the dredge be able to start on the dock dredging, which will last two years. This delay aroused a protest from Mr. T. K. Macdonald, but the Board decided on the course stated. The Wilton Estate, Brooklyn, which was secured recently bj' Messrs. Dwan Bros, for a syndicate, has now been formed into a limited liability company, and was registered last week under the name of the "South Wellington Land Company, Ltd," with the intention of at once developing the property.
