SLDPS ON THE MANAWATU LINE.
The Manawatu Company got all traffic through satisfactorily yesterday, but conditions attend in the night. Two small slips came down on tho line between Johnsonville and Wellington, but were cleared away rapidly, and the suburban train this morning reached town at 10.30. but thero was worse beyond. North of Plimmerton a heavy slip blocked all traffic, and it wa3 found impossible to despatch the mail train this morning. It is hoped, however, to have the line cleared by this afternoon, and to re-open through traffic, if no further mishaps occur. Reports which have reached the general manager, Mt. Hannay, are to the effect that rough weather is being experienced all along the line, and that the Manawatu River is running bank high. LATEST. We are informed this afternoon by Mr. Hannay that it is doubtful whether the mails will get through to-night, and whether any passengers from the north to Wellington will be able to get through to-night. It is hoped that to-morrow the company will oe able to tranship, if not to run right through.
