(Received October 4, 11.14 a.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. Canteen went eleven furlongs in 2min 25£ sec, which is a record. Emir and Sweet Nell covered ten furlongs in 2min 16sec. Sylvanite galloped a mile in lmin 48sec, Demas nine furlongs in 2min lisec, Nuncio and Ballark a mile in lmin 4osec. Wairiki was absent from the tracks. Betting on the V.R.C. Derby -. 6 to 4 against Sylvanite, 2 to 1 Demas, 5 to 1 Koopan. Seakale has been scratched for the Melbourne and Caulfield Cups and Lord Cardigan and Long Tom for the Caulfield Cup. Lady Lillian was scratched for the New Zealand Cup at 4.35 p.m. yesterday.
