The Department of Industries and Com- j merce has received the following cable- | gram from the Agent-General, dated London, tho 30th ultimo:— "The wool sales have closed with a. good demand and a vory active market. Tho market 6hows signs of strength. In the absence of the necessary supplies, there is a grea.t demand from America for best quality coarso and medium crossbred*. Buying has been entirely for consumption, and not in any way speculative. European manufacturing trade is bad, and that ckss of buyers has beon very cautious. Estimated value of fine crossbreds, all grades, is from ll^d to Is lid, medium lOd to ll^d, coarse B£d to lid, superior merino ll^d to Is 2d, medium 9id to Hid, inferior 7d to 9d. Messrs. Murray, Eoberts and Co. have received the following cablegram from. London, dated 29th September: — "Sales have closed firm. Compared with the closing rates of the last London sales merino good to extra good advanced 5 per cent., greasy superior descriptions showing the greatest advance. Scoured faulty and inferior merino show par to 5 per cent, decline, with an irregular market. Crossbred advanced 5 to 7£ per cent. ; coarse, medium, and fine crossbreds of good lustro and breed, suitable for American trade^ showing tho greatest advance. Three thousand bales held over." Messrs. Dalgoty and Company, Limited, have received the following cablegram from. London, dated 29th September: — "Butter — The market is firm for finest quality, but dull for medium and inferior qualities. Wheat — Since tho date of our last telegram wheat in general is higher by 3d to 6d per quarter. Wool sales — Tho sales closed firm and active, with brisk competition. For merino woolb prices are on the average at par to 5 per cent, higher than closing rates of last series, with tho oxception of inferior and faulty scoured wools, for which' prices are rather lower. Fine and medium crossbred wools aro on tho average 5 per cent, higher than closing rates of last series, and for coarse crossbred wools any change in prices is in favour of sellers. Out of the net quantity available for salo some 50,000 bales have been sold for Home consumption, 3000 bales for the Continent, 4000 bales for America, leaving 3000 bales to 'be carried forward to the next series." Messrs. Dalgety and Co. (Limited) have received the following cablegrams from London: — Dated 30th September — "Rabbitskitis — Since the date of our last telegram prices of New Zealand rabbitskins in general are unchanged. For Tasmanlan and Australian prime winter ekins prices are higher by id to Id per lb." Dated Ist October — "Tallow. — Tho market is very firm. Wool. — The market is firm owing to prospect of small supplies."
