WELLINGTON AMATEUR, CLUB'S ANNUAL MEETING.
The sixteenth annual meeting of the Wellington Amateur Athletic Club was held in Batkin's Rooms last evening. There was a large attendance of members, Mr. L. O. H. Tripp (President) occupying the chair. In putting the report and balancesheet before the meeting, the Chairman congratulated the club on the success which had attended its efforts last year Mr. Tripp remarked that he had had hia doubts as to whether the interest in this particular branch of sport could be revived, but the work of an energetic Secretary and a hard-working Committee proved rftose doubts to be unfounded. The club has a balance of £33 17s, and has repurchased its shares in the Athletic Park Company, which account for another £25. Two members from the club had the honour of representing New Zealand at the Australasian championship meeting. Mr. E. W. Cardale and Mr. A. M. Stuart also congratulated the club on its excellent position. Messrs. H.. Henderson, J. Wilton, H. Harcourt, R. Mitchell, W. Riley, and L. Cook were elected members of the' club. The adoption of the report and bal-ance-sheet- (already published) was agreed to. The election of officers resulted as follows: — Patron, His Excellency the Governor Lord Plunket; President, Mr. L. O. H. Tripp ire-elected) ; Vice-Presi-dents, Messrs. J. H. B. Coates, P. J. Nathan, H. D. Bell, J. H. Pollock, T. S Ronaldson, W. F. Larkin (all re-elect-ed), G. Dixon, A. J. Abbott, L. P. It was decided to hold theVcross-coun-try championship on 29th October, and a suggestion was made to the Committee that the Spring Meeting should be held on the 26th November. The matter of arranging for training accommodation for members was left in t^ie hands eft, the incoming committee. Mr. E. W. Cardale, referring to, the matter of drawing up the club's sports programme, thought the Committee should encourage the public schools and colleges, as is done with «niecess in Christchurch, and also urged that a relay race and maiden hurdle event should find a place in the list of races. The Secretary replied that the club already did encourage the schools by placing four races on the programme. The suggestion as to a relay race he thought an admirable one. Mr. Ross contended that the revival of the sport in Wellington was due in a large measure to the formation of the Harriers' Club, and he considered the club should recognise the efforts of the Harriers by making a donation to their funds. It was eventually decided that a sum of £3 3s should be contributed. The meeting concluded with an appeal from the Secretary for members to show more interest !n the general work of the club, and the usual votes of thanks.
