WELLINGTON SWIMMING CLUB'S SPORTS.

The Wellington Amateur Swiniming Club was noi fuvoured with very good woathor for itb annual carnival, held at tho To Aio Baths oa Saturday nflernoon, but neveithvicss the guthering was krgcly attended, und passed off fcuccessfiuly. A nortli-M oslerly gulo sent a heavy tea into the bulhs, und wns nguir|st the icgislering of fast times. Tho racing on tlio whoiu was luleiesting, and several close finishes were witnessed. A great deal of interest centred in the 150) ds Inter-club Handicap, points for which counted for tho While Horse Cellar Whisky Trophy. Twolvo competitora faced tiie stutter, and each Mas considered to havo a fair clnuice. F. Roberts nnd G. C. Girdlestone wero tne popular fancy, nnd this proved to bo nearly correct. When tho limit man .bad covered the first fifty yaads the two scratch men were just leaving the Blarting-bourd, but at the conclusion of 100 yds tho field had drawn close together. Gird^oatono, Ulick, and O. Freyberg were tho first to turn into the final stretch. The foimor was swimming btiongly, and drew away from the others, and won fairly comlortably. A good race for second place saw Roberts gnii. tht vcrtlict with U. Hegglun, U. Ihoyhcig, and F. Wilton in close attendauco. The Ladies' Bracelet, SO^ds, proved an easy thing for R. V. Logio, wlio has not beon rnci;ig for some time, and was therefore let in lightly by tho handicappors. 110 won both his heat nnd the fiiitil with case. The same swimmer also uon the 100 yds Club Handicap, and the Tub Race. E. S. Logio finished third ir tho Bracelet, but was disqualified for leaving tho board before his time. Theio was a poor field for tho SOytis Maiden, which n suited in a fairiy uasv win for C. Freyberg. Tho school boys races drew tatisfactory entries. The 25yds Handicap wus won by A. Cioll, and the 6(Jyds by S. Murroll. Some capital diving was dono in tho Neatest Hciulor and J)iving competition. ITio officials for the- gathwring wero na follows :— Judges, Alessrs.
