NEW ZEALAND LAWN TENNIS ASSOCIATION.
A general meeting of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association was held last night. There were present : Messrs. A. Young (Taranaki delegate, in the chair), J. L. Fieeman (Canterbury), A. Jones (Hawkes Bay), H. PaTker (Otago), F. Laishl&y (Nelson), M. Fraser (Welling~i£fij- 1 --and G. N. Goldie, Hon. Secretary. A letter was read from the Wellington Association urging the publication of a New Zealand Lawn Tennis Handbook. Mr. Goldie strongly supported the adoption of the idea, and offered his services in getting out a guide. It is probable the matter will be dealt with at the annual meeting. The meeting spent a great deal of time in considering the proposed rules. Rule 1 was altered to read that "the Association shall consist of such provincial associations of the colony as are already affiliated and of any other provincial associations that may be admitted as hereafter provided." The effect is that only one association in any province can be affiliated to the controlling body. Rule 5 was cut down to read that delegates must be resident in Wellington, but a rule later on provides that on application from any Secretary of an affiliated association a proxy may be granted to a delegate not necessarily resident at headquarters. Mr. Goldie drew attention to the fact that at present the association was only associated with the English Lawn Tennis Association, and he strongly advised that it be affiliated to the latter body, and thereby entitled to a delegate. On the motion of Mr. Parker, it was decided to affiliate and to ask Viscount Horncastle to represent New Zealand on the English Council. \ The annual meeting of the Association has been fixed lor 29th September. The Hon. Secretary informed the meeting that he had written to Blenheim, Westport, Greymoutlv Hokitika, and Invercargill with the idea of having associations formed in the several provincial districts. It was decided that the following snoaldbe the basis of representation of '*" affiliated associations : — Associations having more than one club of not less than 20 active members each, one delegate or, voet; ofter lhat one delegate or one vote for every fifty members belonging to cluljs affiliated to that association, the maximum number of delegates or votes from any association not to exceed five. Rule 35 was amended to read that no association shall hold a championship or handicap tournament unless the New Zealand Association has first approved of the programme and dates. The, question of providing in the rules for tlie holding of the championship tournament in the North Island and the South Island alternately was referred to the New Zealand Association. The annual subscription was fixed at £2 2s. An additional subscription of 5s 6d will be charged for each delegate or vote.
