Mr. Ritchie, at the National Insurance Company's annual meeting, in moving the adoption of the report, said there wag not the same increase in the premium income this year as last, but the losses were less. by £8000. The expenses werq £2000 greater, mainly owing to me inevitable increase of the staff, due to increased competition. The directors have been aMe to increase (.he reserve for current risks' to nearly 50 per cent, of the premium income. They have been anxious to do this for some time, as this percentage iq recognised by all the best authorities ab Home as a safe standard, and was em forced by law in America.
