DIX'S GAIETY COMPANY.

" The best ' turn ' ever seen at tha Royal " is the general opinion of Messrs. Callahan and Mack's Irish sketch, aud those who have not yet seen it are advised not to miss it. Mr. Brown Parker, the ball-puncher, is another attraction, out of the common, and there are half a dozen, additional artists guaranteed to make an evening pass pleasantly for the most fastidious. At the entertainment given at the Sailors* Rest last evening vocal and instrumental items were contributed by tho Misses Quin and A. Hyde, Messrs Henderson, M'Nevan, Woodward, Arnold,, (s.s Athenic), Campbell, and A. G. Spencer. An exhibition of club-swinging by Miss D. Hurley was also given. Mr. Davis has arrived in Wellington to prepare for the lectures which Colonel George W. Bell, the American orator, is to give shortly. Colonel Bell, who for • several years represented the United States of America in Sydney, has a reputation as an orator and author, and has had much expedience as a lecturer. The Colonel, who is making a tour of tha colonies, is to give several lectures in tha Opera House next month. Some idea of the excellence of tho entertainment being arranged by Messrs. Moore and Harrison in aid of the suffer* ers by the Elingamite disaster can ba gained from the programme published, to-night. A number of well known vocalists have promised to contribute items, and Mr. Harrison's gymnasium classes will perform athletic exercises of various kinds.
