FISHERIES CONSERVATION.
The Fisheries Conservation Act Amendment Bill is not haviug an easy passage through the Council. After several divisions yesterday, the objectionable clause inserted on the motion of the Hon. J. Rigg was struck out, and the third reading of the measure set down for Tuesday next. On that day, however, several motions for the recommittal of tho measure will come on. One of these is by tho Hon. J. Rigg, who proposes to add a new clause giving holders of fishing licenses the right to travel up river-beds within stated limits. The Hon. J. M. Twomey desires to introduce a now clause making not binding and illegal any agreement between any riparian owner and any other person giving the right to take fish from a natural stream or watercourse. Tho Hon. H. Feldwick, who has tho third motion pending, wishes to have clause 5 excised from the Bill. This clause gives an owner power to fish without a license.
