ORCHARD AND GARDEN PESTS.
The Joint Stock Committee has concluded its consideration of the Orchard and Garden Pests Bill. It proposes to strike out clause 15, which provided that no compensation should be paid for anything done by an inspector in £he discharge of his duties, or any loss or injury resulting therefrom. A new clause is added providing that in respect to the Auckland Provincial Diitrict (excluding the Counties of VVaiapu and Cook, and so much of tho Counties of Wairoa and Hawkes Bay as aro in that district), that the diseases mentioned in the second schedule shull not be deemed to be diseases except in so far as the Governor directs by Order-in-Counoil. )No such Order- in-Cbuncil shall be made except on the application of a majority of all the local bodies, but nothing in such Qrdcr-in<Council shall permit an evasion of the provisions of the Bill designed to Jtrevent the sale and distribution of inected plants and fruit.
