WESTMINSTER ABBEY.

SPECIAL SERVICE FOR COLONIAL TROOPS. [pbkbS association.] LONDON, 18th August. A special service was arranged lor the colonial contingents at Westminster Abbey yesterduy. The troopurs occupied the galleries erected for tho peers and commoners for the Coronation service. They listened to the singing of the Abbey choirs without joining iv the Psalms. When the hymn "Onward Christian Soldiers" was announced, the Most Rev. Dr: Welldon, Bishop of Calcutta, who preached, mounted the pulpit, glanced at the galleries, beat time with his hands, and every colonial sang. The Bishop, in the course of his sermon, declared that tho character of the people made the Empire great,' and alone i preserved it.
