THE SHERIDAN SEASON.

The box plan for the Sheridan ComS&ify, which commences a season at the pera House on Saturday evening next, is now open at Holliday s. The following are supporting Mr. John F. Sheridan : — Messrs. Edmund Duggan, Frank Weathersby, Charles Ashley, Frank Crossiey, .Walter Dalgleisb, Bert Hermann, Harry Couzens, Fred Wentworth, Misses Celia Mavis, Florrie Barns, Maud Gwynne, Violet Montague, Daisy Chard, Elie Mowbray, and others.

The usual meeting of tho Victoria College Debating Society took place on Saturday last at the* Girls' High School, when proposals from Canterbury College that an intercollegiate debate be held in Cbristchurch next year were discussed. It was resolved that representatives be chosen and other details settled at next meeting, which will be the last of the session. Miss Tasker moved, "That the present tendency is to over-estimate the value of athletics." Mr. J. M. Bathom led the opposition. After much discussion—in which Messrs. Smythe, de la Mare Richmond, Dixon, and Ludwig took part — the motion was lost by one vote. ( Members were aho reminded oU the Spooking Competition next meeting. The Musgrove Opera Company topped all records in the theatrical annals of the colony, with its first performance in Dunedin of " Tannhauser," the takings amounting to £348. When the company disbands at the close of the Dunedin season several of its members will probably give a series of concerts before leavingthe colony. The Pollard Opera Company arrived in Wellington yesterday from the South, and went on this morning to Masterton, where the company performs to-night.
