A GROOM-ELECT'S DILEMMA. TO THE EDITOR.

Sir,— l had a somewhat unique experience this morning, which I feel sure you will agree should be ventilated, in the public interest. Contemplating matrimony, I catteil on the lopai Regisfcvar to ascertain necessary particulars, as to data, fees, etc. In response to my timid knock, I heard, "Come in," and I "came in"— to the presence of several people, evidently on the same errand as myself. As some wont away, others came in, and after 'publicly listening to various personal histories, my own turn came, when I informed the Registrar that I would like to sde him privately. ' He ushered me out intb the public passage, and apologised for apparant lack of courtesy by informing me that he had ,no private room attached to his office. I eventually got the information required, and departed feeling <Juito convinced that if I ran my own business on similar line 3 I might safely shut myt door in a week's time, as lam not a fortunate monopolist. Further, I may mention that recently, when I acted as a witness to a marriage in the same office, the service was painfully punctuated by the tread of mpssengers, clerks, and the general public passing in and out of the .only room luat the Registrar seems to have at his disposal. Surely, sir, the interests and conveniences of the officials (not to mention the private feelings of the public) deserve more attention at thfe hands of the department ! '•'ith apologies for making a hobby horse of my own special grievance. -^-1 am, etc., R.J.C. ■"Hh November
