[ritESS ASSOCIATION.] WAIMATE, 15th November. Great interest wos taken in the election of Borough Councillors to-day. Five Councillors resigned their seats becausa tho Mayor printed a new bylaw against the wish of the majority of the Council. On the Mayor (Dr. Barclay) refusing to put to the Council a vote of censure on himself for so doing, five Councillors resigned. They all stood for re-election, as well as five others, and all the old Councillors were a.gadn returned. The voting was as follows :— Coltman, 176; Cameron, 171 ; Jones, 170 ; Inkster, 156; Mann, 145; Scott, 137; Freeman, 130; Evansf, 113; Dash, 109 j Butcher, 90. CHRISTCHURCH, 15th November. At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association, held to-night, the suib committee appointed to deal with the question of amalgamation with the Auckland Association reported that the proposals made in a letter from Mr. R. St. Olair, asking whether the Association v/ould! assent to registration, and also to an alteration of the general headquarters, had been* agreed to. The sub-committee's action ■was approved. The New Zealand championships for the season were allotted to the Canterbury clubs. Efforts will be made to have them decided during the first week in January. The first of the competitions in connection with the Home Industries sect-ion of the Exhibition,, carried out to-day, was an unqualified success. The competitions include cookery, domestic work, and floral displays. The entries in the cooking and sweetmeat classes number 245; damsstic classes attracted a dozen competitors ; while there were eighty-four floral and table decorations. DUNEDIN, This Day. Willidm tfownley was yesterday fined £30 and costs by Mr. Stratford, S.M., for sly-grog selling at Port Molynetix, in tie Clutha- district. M£. N. Paterson, for the defendant, asked for time to pay the fine, as his client was a hftrd-worlting man, and not in a position to pa"y. One month was given to pay half the fine, when, if nece,sjary, application could be made for an extension. William Tyron . Ferrar was committed for trial fqr falsifying accounts while acting as clerk at Mount Royal station. Bail was allowed. WANGANUI, Day. The entries for the Wanganui A. and P. Show next Thursday are more than double those of last year. The numbers of horses, poultry, and dogs entered constitute a record for the coiony, the horses totalling 100 more than the num ber entered at either Christchurch or Palmerston Shows. For the jumping over forty horses are entered. The membership of the association has increased by 100. ___ _ _ ___
