DEATH OF GEN. MARTINEZ CAMPOS.
<j [PBESS ASSOCIAU'IpN.] (Received September 25, 8.55 a.m.) MADRID, 24th (September. Martinez Campos, the well known Spanish General, is dead. [General Martinez Campos was I born in 1834. He left the Staff School at Madrid with the rank of lieutenant, and went ! through tho Morocco campaign in 1859, when he was promoted to the -rank of major. He took a prominent part in the Carlist wars, but was placed on the retired list and imprisoned in 1873 on a charge of conspiracy. He was soon afterwards released and restored to high command, and with General Jovellar made the military pronunciament which gave the Spanish throne to Alfonso XII. He brought the civil war to a close by the defeat of Don Carlos in 1876. Subsequently General Campos was appointed Commander-in-Chief in Cuba, and in after years ho was Minister" of War and President of the Council. In 1885 he was elected President of tha Senate, and in 1888 was appointed Captain-General of New Castille.]
