[Yesterday we were informed that Victoria had broken off her negotiations with the Eastern Extension Company as to the terms on which the new Cape cable should be laid, and, being anxious to make sure of the Pacific cable, had reminded the Secretary of State for the Colonies of her readiness to fulfil her obligations with regard to that line."!
