OUR DEFENCE FORCES.

WELLINGTON'S BEARER CORPS IN CAMP. The first encampment of the Wellington Bearer Corps was entered upon last night, the tents being pitched in Newtown Park, to the north of the Roughriders' camp. A week is tp be spent under canvas, Surgeon -Captain Mackenzie being in command. At the first parade, held after tea, 25 members were present, the non-commissioned officeis being StaffSergeant Welsby, Sergeants Seamon and Marshall, Corporals Haning and Kenny, Lance-Corporala Arteer and' M'Millan. Another parade was held at 5.15 o'clock this morning, when Sergeant Welsby put the men through squad drill. The company parades again at at 6.45 o'clock this evening. Members of the Kelburne Rifles are notified that class firing will take place ?,'t Polhill Gully to-morrow morning, and volley firing on Saturday morning and afternoon.

The crops in the Grey district look exceptionally well this year, and a heavy yie"ld is expected. Harvesting is already in full swing. 1 Tenders are invited for the wine, fxuit, and grocery and provision busiress of Mr. John Keith, Wanganui. Particulars are given elsewhere. Messrs. Baker Bros, will sell by auction on the 7th March, 'under instructions from the Registrar of the Supreme Court, the premises in Lower Cuba-street lately occupied by Messrs. Rit'chie and Co.; also a number of other city properties.
