PORTUGAL TAKES A STAND.
A FLEET ORDERED TO THE CAPE. (Received January 13, 9.10 a.m.) LONDON, 12th January. Tho Channel Squadron has been ordered to sail on the 31sfc inst. for Gibraltai*, to relieve tho Particular Service Squadron now stationed there. On being relieved the Particular Service Squadron will proceed to the Cape.
(Received January 13, 9.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. A New South Wales infantry man, writing from the front, slates that Boer waggons which had the Red Cross painted upon thorn, when opened were found to contain bandages in the front and rear sections, but were full of ammunition in the centre. v ' Another writer states that the station master at De Aar was shot as a spy, having been caught receiving a Maxim gun for the Boers, in parts, labelled "glass, Avilh care." Ho was only given half an hour's grace.
