THE PENNANT MATCHES. On Saturday afternoon tho four City Bowling Clubs played tho first round of tho games to decide which club is to have the honour of flying the Pennant for the current year. The match is an annual fixture, aud has since lls institution provoked keeu interest. The Wellington Club held the Flag for tho first two years, and last year it went to No.wtowu, out of whose possession it has now to be wrested. Iv former games the match was decided by poiuts, but now tho winner of moat games in the tourney will hold the trophy. Each club has to play the other on a neutral green. On Saturday Wellington beat Newtown somewhat easily, but the match between Thorndon and Victoria was one of the keenest imaginable. At half-timo the scores stood at 38 all, and at the 21st head it was still a tie. So it was decided to play a final head, and after great tussle*, Thorndon came off a winner by one point.
