NEW ZEALAND'S CONTINGENT.
SENT TO THE COLESBERG DISTRICT. CAPETOWN, 9th December. The New Zealand contigent of mounted infantry, which has lor some daya been at Naauwpoort, in northern Cape Colony, where it was attached to the troops under Lieut. -Gen. French — who is acting in conjunction with Lieut. -Genera] Sir W. F. Gatacre— is being jquickly made use of. It was deemed necessary yesterday by General French that a strong force should be despatched nearer to Colesberg, the centre of a widely disaffected district, and three trains ot cavalry were accordingly despatched for Arundel, a town nineteen miles to the northward oi Naauwpoort and another nineteen miles south of Colesberg. The enlrainment of the regiments was covered by tho New Zealanders, who also left for the name destination. [The Agont-General (Hon. W. P. Reeves), under date Saturday, cabled to the Premier stating that the New Zealand contingent had been sent to Arundel, and that nothing of importance had occurred in connection with the war during the last ten days.]
