AN EMPHATIC DIRECTION TO THE COMMANDER. THE REVOLT TO BE CRUSHED.
(Received February 8, 10 a.m.) Washington, 7th February. The Government has instructed General Otis, Commander of the American troops at Manila, to crush the revolt. General Otis is directed to occupy Iloilo, the chief town of the island of Panay, where the Americans have had much trouble with the inhabitants since the Spanish evacuation.
