The Bank of England returns published yoaterdny show the total reserve of notes and coin in tho Banking Department for tho week to be as against -822,103,000 for last week and during the corresponding week of last year. The proportion of reserve to liabilities is 4590 per cent., as apainst 4480 last week and 4489 last year. The circulation is aa against ,£26,666,000 last week and .£26,610,000 last year. The market rate of discount for best three months' bills is 1-16 higher, at 2 1-16 per cent. The Bank of England rate is 3£ per cent., as against 4 per cent, on 13th October, 3 per cent, on 22nd September, and 2£ per cent, on 30th June. COLONIAL AND OTHER PRODUCE. American speculation is stiffening the wheat market; 18,000 quarters Victorian wheat, ex steamer, delivery in January, have been sold at 30s per 4901b ; 9000 quarters, ex sailer, January and February delivery, at 28s 9d; 11,000 quarters at 28s 4£d, and 13,000 quarters at 28s 6d; parcels of February shipment sold at 27s 6d; South Australian wheat, ex steamer, 28s 9d. Sugar is firmer. German beet, 88deg M 9s 6d por cwt; Java cane, No. 15, D.S., 11s 7_d per cwt. The Bradford top market is firmer. Common sixties are quoted at Is B£d per lb, and super sixties at Is 9_d. The weather is improving the butter trade. Colonial is selling at 98s to 108s per cwt, a few parcels realising 102s. Danish is unchanged at 106s. Wool is firm. The Americans are buying low crossbreds freely. The Tauroa brand realised B|d.
