THE LEONID METEOR RING.
The November Meteors, as the Leonidr are sometimes called, do not seem to Jiavr been observed in greater number in America than in England, which favours the conclusion that the shower was really no greater or more brilliant than in ordinary years, though the period of maximum is now so near. Mr. Denning, the meteor expert, thinks the earth is still too far in advance of the cometary mass, but thai the thinness of that part of the ring through which we recently passed is no reason why we should not expect this year, or the next again, a renewal of the brilliant displays witnessed in 1833 and 1866. As the comet's period is rather more than 33 years, 1900 is more likely to be the maximum year than 1899.
